Why do i get dizzy & nauseas during my period?

My girlfriend has a pretty violent period lol, I think all the dizziness and early cramps just happen to certain people. It might run in your family. (My girlfriend's family (according to her) has always had painful periods, it's just something that runs in the women of their family).
